Polukranos, World EaterKill ALL the Things
I threw this deck together many months ago, and I love it. It's a great little casual deck that does BIG things. Still, I need some ideas where to move the deck from here, and would love some ideas. I want to focus on the Wild Pair and Birthing Pod aspects so any suggestions would be great! Also, ways to more reliably get Basilisk Collar would be sweet, probably hard in mono-green.
The point of the deck is to RAMP big time, which puts us at a huge risk to just get blown out. That's okay if you're playing in a meta without much MLD, which my meta lacks. Other than that, it's a big dumb green deck, but it's a lot of fun to play. We ramp a lot to ensure we can afford the massive monstrous cost. Of course, when you play with this much mana, you're always a heartbeat away from a fun play. We actually do some mass creature destruction by taking advantage of death touch. Attaching a Basilisk Collar or Gorgon Flail to Polukranos and all of a sudden he can wipe a board. You can even protect him with Asceticism or Yavimaya Hollow
Alright, another Polukranos deck! Right on, man. Since you're considering this to be a 'little casual' deck I'm going to keep that in mind with the suggestions that I make.
Caged Sun/Vernal Bloom - You already have Mana Reflection, but redundency is an extremely important aspect in a singleton format like EDH, so having back ups of your better cards will help the deck operate smoothly. Adding more mana doublers will help Polukranos get bigger faster, and getting it to that sweet spot of 7/7 only requires a Monstrosity of 5. This also allows you to pump more mana into Omnath and alows your other hydras to grow larger (although any hydra that starts as a 0/0 is useless with Wild Pair, which is something to consider).
Bow of Nylea/Quietus Spike - Both of these cards grant that Deathtouch you're looking for. The bow gives it to all of your attacking creatures, meaning you can swing with Polukranos and then activate Monstrosity to knock out the competition. The spike is an option if life gain is something in your meta, and with Oloro running around nowadays it's something to consider. There aren't any ways of grabbing artifacts in Green that I can think of, so adding more will help. Even though you have stated that this is a little casual deck, I have to give a shout out to Sword of Kaldra here. The only thing better than knocking out all of your opponents' creatures is throwing them out of the ring.
Unfortunately I have no experience with Wild Pair so I cannot give you any advise as on how to utilize it best. However I have used Birthing Pod at times, and I have found it works best when it turns your deck into a toolbox. I would usually run at least a few creatures at CMC 4-8 that either destroyed something Indrik Stomphowler, made my board position stronger Brawn, or did something else Spike Weaver. Those are just some examples at the 4 level, but I'm sure you could find a way to abuse the heck out of BP and WP, dumping a lot of your deck onto the table.
Other than the above the deck looks good, I like the direction it's taking so far. Conjurer's Closet works well with your Wild Pair triggers, so I would think about adding more ETB type creatures if you want to push this route to get more bang for your buck. I might actually add more creatures to your deck so you can have more things to grab with Wild Pair, getting rid of things like Khalni Heart-Expedition and Wayfarer's Bauble for cards like Ondu Giant and Borderland Ranger for their power and toughness. You can also look into my own Polukranos deck for ideas if you'd like (link in my sig). Keep up the good work, I look forward to the deck's evolution!
Excellent suggestions all around. I forgot Vernal Bloom exists, so that'll be on a future buylist, as well as Caged Sun. Same for the deathtouch suggestions.
I need to remember Ondu Giant exists, I always forget, and I have like 20 laying around, so that'll find its way into the deck. I don't like Borderland Ranger as it puts the searched land into your hand, whereas cards like Wood Elves, Ondu Giant, and Farhaven Elf put the land into play allowing for a true ramp spell attached to a body.
I'd also like to note, I don't really want in to be a little casual deck, I guess that came across that way due to my word choice. Right now it's kinda that way, but I'd like some real oomph to the deck. And I'll certainly take a look at your list.
