There are reports around of high quality Chinese counterfeits that have made their way to California. Here are some examples, and how to spot the fakes. For example:
The top one is fake, and can be recognized by the additional spacing between the letters, the different font, and that the Trademark and Copyright signs stand out more.
redthirst is redthirst, fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. He was the leader of the Fires of Salvation, the only clan I'm aware of to get modded off the forums so hard they made their own forums.
Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
as funny as that may or may not be, that is kinda lame that they would try this, though i am not suprised. i'll talk to several of my friends in cal and see if they have come across any of these fakes.

Not trying to insinuate anything, but it does make me wonder about all the cards I have ordered threw Goods-Seller/mtgmintcard on eBay. I did check my Fulminator Mages and everything seems to be in order. I am just paranoid I guess.
I feel bad for players that get stuck with these in trades without knowing. Or someone getting losses in a tourney whilst finding out their dual lands is fake or such :/
if it walks, and talks like a duck then its a duck.
It is bad they are doing this but if it ever hits the point that they correct whats wrong this time what will that do to the secondary market. If they learn from their mistakes then MTG secondary value pre M15 will tank.
It is NOT known that those cards in that list have been counterfeited. The photo of numerous cards going around could just be stock photos out of a binder. On the same site of origination, there are multiple listings with photos of MANY more cards than that. Some say they won't print copyrighted product, others don't. It *could* be that they're just trying to sell card printing for card-type items *similar* to MtG... but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to be true.
At this point, the only cards KNOWN to have been counterfeited are in the N.C. case list.
Liliana of the Veil
Tarmogoyf (Modern Masters)
Ashiok
Jace TMS
GURU Island
Mox Emerald
Domri Rade
Incidentally, NONE of these cards are on list you provided, Harakesh.
Hell, if they're cheap I'd buy them. Cheaper than the real thing but better quality than printer paper cardstock? Heck yeah.
I sure as hell wouldn't be a prick and try to trade them or sell them as the real thing to someone else, but they serve my purpose - Play Magic, affordably.
I have a friend who found the site that is selling them. The are indeed selling fakes, of any number anywhere, for next to nothing. Quite sad that its gone this far.
I think the risk of players unknowingly getting forgeries inplace of real cards is a far greater issue than proxy quality.
yes, for the larger playerbase. however to me, accidentally mixing in my proxies is worse. if i were to purchase these, i wouldn't be selling them off.
Maybe this will be a wakeup call for WOTC to rethink their reserved list policy. Hopefully this tells them that if they don't respect the market, then the market will correct itself.

I don't think this is really a constructive opinion. As much as I dislike the reserved list, it isn't "disrespecting the market". And fakes that can be had for <$1 are by no means a reasonable "correction".

They may not be the correct way to show the desperation of some for cards that are hard to obtain, BUT, the fact that people are willing to buy these, just to have some of these cards wizards refuses to touch does show that it's getting a bit ridiculous. I'd be lying if I said I weren't interested to get some of these cards for a cube, or for gauntlet decks and such.

Most of the cards seen here are Standard/Modern cards not even remotely affected by the Reserved List. The very first card that I saw as a fake was Tarmogoyf, which was just reprinted last year.
People are willing to buy these because they think they can pass them off as the real thing and stick some other poor sucker with a worthless counterfeit.
If you want proxies for a cube/gauntlet decks, there are much easier and legal ways to do that (i.e. a Sharpie or slips of paper with the card name/text)

The real problem lies in the secondary market prices, not counterfeits. Think about it, if modern staples cost half of their current secondary market price, (or even less), tarmagoyf costs $60-70, Lotv costs 20 etc, most modern decks will go for less than $500, the player base would expand, counterfeits become less attractive. What should we do in order to solve this problem? I suggest reducing booster packs to 7 cards. 1 rare, 2 uncommons and 4 commons, and foil takes an uncommon slot, while reducing its price by half. Because of the fact that wizards actually sell their cards in packs and not individuals, this effectively means u r selling less cards(14 in 2 packs vs 15 in one) for the same price. What this does is effectively dropping the price of rares/mythics because of increased supply, while slightly reducing the supply and increase the price of commons.

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
