Default [PC] Kartefact: Gaea's Anthem, Dismal Failure, Magus of the Coffers (images 138)

German Magazine Kartefakt has some new cards for us. I'm giving the german names and in brackets a rough translation. My eyes aren't good enough for numbers

Gaeas Hymne (Gaeas Hymn)
Timeshifted green 'Glorious Anthem'
rare

Entmutigender Niedergang (Depressing Failure) 2UU

Counter target Spell. That spells controller discards a card.

uncommon

They also have Magus of the Coffers

Magus of the Coffers 4B
Human Wizard
<Cofferability>
4/4
rare
The other cards are known namely Circle of Affliction, sinew sliver, Piracy charm and keldon marauders.

As they appear in the spoiler:

Gaea's Anthem 1gg
Enchantment TS(R)
Creatures you control get +1/+1.

Dismal Failure 2uu
Instant (U)
Counter target spell. The spell's controller discards a card.

Magus of the Coffers 4b
Creature - Human Wizard (R)
,: Add to your mana pool for each swamp you control.
4/4

Hmmm..I was hoping the Magus would be cheaper, but still a 4/4 body for 5 mana is pretty damn good, even at rare and black.

The green GA is meh. I won't play it and prbably neither will alot of people, as Glorious Anthem has lost it's usefulness in a Boros dominated Environment where it is a non threat.

Eh, what? The coffers guy costs 5, you can't get him out in time to take advantage of an early yawg's tomb. Oh well, glad there's Dark Rit in the formats I play anymore.

Green Glorius Anthem.... But why? Hmm maybe MaRo isn't oissing on the color pie but trying to give green some strength. Maybe make the fat fatter? I don't get how it will help green..

Coffers is huge at 4/4, I see every magus is completly different in p/t this time around.

Counter and discard? Why not just Perplex

Wow, they're pushing mono-green a bit here with a green anthem. The coffers guy... Not good at all, IMO. Comes down too late to give you a major accel into something scary, so it's really only useful to cast a ridiculous finisher, or in some crazy infinite mana combo - but you have better options for both.

thanks for the info. the green anthem makes sense... a solid card but it probably won't see play over other green pump. the counter-discard is strong but at 4cc probably won't fill a need. magus of the coffers is also too big and expensive to see a lot of use. he would've been much stronger as a 3CC creature with a small body.

Magus of the coffers is a total disappointment, much like the arena one. At least green gets another gem. Fits quite good in green too. So now we have Glorious anthem in white, the new green one, Bad moon from TS. Anti-burn rules!

I am so excited to make a mono-green deck with Planar Chaos. Groundbreaker, Timbermare, Gaea's Hymn and we don't even know about half the set yet.

Ever heard of saprolings?

EDIT: Cabal coffers didn't really do anything until turn 4 itself, and then it did very little. Sure, you can't use this guy until turn 6 without other accel, but he also doesn't cost you a land drop, so he effectively does more than coffers (in exchange for being more vulnerable). I'm not sure relying on a creature to provide huge amounts of mana is a great late game plan to begin with, but late-game mana is what coffers was all about, not early acceleration, so I don't see why anyone would have expected this guy to cost less than 4. At 5, he's probably on the safe side, just like Voidstone Gargoyle, but interesting nonetheless

Is there a link to these cards? Or some kind of scan? Anyone else out there have the magazine?

Anyway, those are decent cards. GA in green is probably not needed. I can't think of a deck that would really care to use it.

The Magus is pretty good. 4/4 body will make him a threat even without the magus ability.

The counterspell is the analog to Dismiss. I am still bitter that Rewind beat out Dismiss for the core set...

Gaea's Hymn, 1GG, RARE
Enchantment
Creatures you control get +1/+1.

So now White Black and Green have this ability? Seems sort of arbitrary, but at least it's flavored Greenly.

As opposed to Depressing (Dismal) Failure. Counter and discard is great, and will keep Blue at the top of the heap, even if it makes absolutletly no sense as a mono blue card.

I'm relieved that Magus of the Coffers has a higher casting cost and bigger body. I was worried that a weenie coupled with Damnation and Tomb of Yawgmoth would spell a lifetime of mono black domination.

3B with that ability and 4/4 would be wayyy too good. He's have to be a 3/3 at 4 mana, probably.

I'm glad coffers magus is big. I never really liked how abuse coffers was as a land

that's not really a good comparison. perplex will never counter the must-counter-or-lose spell. even if they choose to let you counter a spell, it's still 1:1 card non-advantage.

this counter guarantees the counter + discard giving you +1 card advantage. the drawback of course is that it costs 4... probably putting it out of range for most control decks.
