Great read Finn, I am beginning to like this series alot and the InfamousBearAssasin's insights were quite valuable

The qualm I have with legacy would be the portal cards lol, they are so difficult to find... (though one does not HAVE to use portal cards....)

Signing this! I'm kinda new to the format, and it helps me alot to get into things with this series. Can't afford GP Columbus (one GP a year is where the budget goes) but I sure am going to follow it closely in the internet. And thanks to this article series I will have alot more understanding of the different decks, different plays and probably the metagame too. Regards

Another great article about Legacy. So, Finn, you're interviewing all good deck creators in this series, huh? so when we will see one with you?
And i'm picking up Truffle Shuffle right after my cards arrive.

Nice article. Haven't heard of Jack for a while, good to hear that he's still doing his thing. For all my hatred towards control, I still would like more to be present in the format and Jack has certainly done more than his part for that.

It's funny, 'cause I knew who he was referring to with his "Random names."

Well, relating back to the previous point, Blue-based control simply doesn’t work very well in Legacy. While it has the draw power, the counter-base is atrocious in the metagame for control purposes. This is weird to people because they see Solidarity and Threshold doing very well with counters, but they’re using those counters solely to buy a turn or two. The problems with counterspells in the format can be summed up in three words; Lackey, Vial, Storm.
This paragraph is so dead-on that it made the rest of the article forgettable.

To add something slightly new, I think there's a global negligence about white's potential for control today. Wombat is old work and features a very defensive and metagame-ish approach. I think there should be room for something newer and less meta-dependant. Something less slow with faster and more polyvalent options.
There are a lot of high-quality, cheap cards available for white control, like Orim's Chant, Swords to Plowshares, Porphyry Nodes (?), Dawn Charm (?), Mana Tithe (? although likely more aggro-control than control) yet no one seems to be working with them. White traditionally fails in the card advantage department, which Wombat dodged via cantrips but I can't shake the idea that artifacts, like Isochron Scepter, or the use of another colour could shore up this problem.

Yeah, just a thought. Nice to hear from the bear, else.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it seemed natural that an article series about Legacy deck designers would feature IBA prominently. Funny thing is he always says pretty much what he means, so his manner of speaking is exaclty what we are all used to. With Eldariel, I found myself a bit foolishly surprised by how much he knows (I should really have figured it beforehand), but with IBA it was just a matter of asking the best questions I could to get his words out there.

As for interviewing myself, uhh. I do that in most articles already. The questions are in bold print throughout.

I really have enjoyed your interviews, Finn, you have some great deck experts in the spotlight and I look forward to seeing who steps up next. Thanks for giving the "Rodney Dangerfield" format some respect.

Well-written article, with enough humor and insight to make it good.

"Azuraphobe" indeed!

Now, if IBA will only tell me the secret to beating Solidarity....

Brass knuckles across the temple on the player playing solidarity and the ability to hide the brass knuckles quickly.

Anyway well done.
