This is what happened. When I finally had gathered the courage to phone the easter egg-number, it was unmistakenly answered by the long blondehaired woman. In that special voice of hers she told me her husband was "out of town" and that if I would visit her at her house she would "make it worth my while".
I hesitated, was this a setup? On the other hand: it seemed an offer I couldn't refuse
When I arrived at the given adress (it was in the posh part of town) the door was open. I entered and the first thing I saw was a reproduction of the Black Lotus hanging on the wall of the hallway. There also lay a snippet of paper on the stairs. I picked it up and it said: "Tarmogoyf". I called but no one answered.
Then I saw another piece of paper, higher up the stairs. And another one, and another one.
I gathered as much of them as I dared, but then my courage failed me. I bolted, leaving behind at least one piece of paper at the top the stairs.
Outside again, I could peace together the following text:
1G
Creature - Lhurgoyf
Tarmogoyf's power is equal to the number of card types among cards in all graveyards and it's toughness is equal to that number plus 1. (The card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, sorcery, Tribal, and Planeswalker)
*/1+*
Interesting... though a little dissappointing in that it can only get so high due to the limited number of card types, it's still a good deal at 1G. Playing this around turn 3-4 or so it will very often be at least a 2/3 if not higher.

Making contraptions, wishing I could make them twice as efficiently.
I know a lot of people were speculating that the new types would be subtypes like Equipment since it was advertized as the first new card type since Legends. This makes it seem like they are going to be full card types. Nice hint at confermation.
The card: most of the time, it will be 3/4 for 2 mana (for creatures, sorceries, and instants). That's not bad at all. But I wouldn't look at it as a second drop...
I love these stories hunter and hydro are making up. much more entertaining then 'heres a card, this post is basicly spam' (RE i loved when you posted rumors, but yea, these stories are awesome sauce)
one thing i dont understand is, so if i have like 3 cards in the yard and 2 are lands and the other is an instant it will only be a 2/3? thats kinda meh to me. it really is a cheap late game card.

hmm compared to the other Lhurgoyfs this does'nt look like it will grow very big.. but for 2cc =) still... looks like a turn 2-3 onwards card since you still need to have stuff in the grave.... probably will find a home in a deck with early attrition
I don't get why people are calling this card bad. Sure, if you play it turn 2 it's unlikely to be more than a 1/2, but if you do anything meaningful turn 3 - say use a removal spell on a creature or play a creature that gets countered - then it's typically going to be a 3/4 or so. Its P/T peaks at 6/7, which is fantastic for a 2-drop. And if there are new card TYPES... then wow.
You people are missing a very subtle clue about the new card types. Since the types listed in the reminder text are in alphabetical order, the two new types don't have a name that starts with "Aa-" through "Cr-".
EDIT: Not much of a clue, but a clue nonetheless.

This is the cheapest lurgoyf ever, with +1 toughness! I think it may be playable, but you have to treat it like a Serra Avenger (ie- dont play it on the early turns simply because you can, wait for it to be at least a 3/4).
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.

I choose to think of this card like Serra Avenger and removal spells. Its CMC doesn't fall on your curve as you want to play it later than turn 2, so that means you are playing this guy with mana open allowing you to do other stuff. I think it will be fun. Do we know it is rare? I could see this being a good uncommon.

Thinking with that logic I think Hunter wouldnt have stopped if the new stuff came after instant so at least one of the new types is between Cr and In...this of course could be called speculation but anyway.
in standard...could be sick....
turn 1, any red/green mana producing land and Wild Cantor. Sac Cantor, play Rite of flame. Play Seal of Fire and shock. (there are other combinations that play for 1 cmc like a Chromatic Star)
turn 2, if you have red land, play green land. Sac seal of fire..smacking opponent upside the head with it. Cast Tarmogoyf. Right there it's already a 4/5.
The following turn you can sac a ghost quarter or Terramorphic expanse or cast a Bottle Gnomes...the possiblities are limitless really. My point is it would not be hard to have this creature be a 5/6 by turn 3.
not bad for 2 mana. im thinking this will see a home in my B/G dredge deck 2 mana for a 2/3 or a 3/4 thats going to get bigger over time is always good news
...I darted across the street, looking both ways in the early pre-dawn light. The buzz of a neon sign from the greasy diner resonated in the adjacent alley. Taking a moment to catch my breath, I peeked around the corner, looking uptown and there was not a soul in sight. A cab sped past the intersection, and I got my nerve up. I strode quickly past the diner's large plate glass windows. There, at the third booth is a tablet pc user, scribbling furiously. As if in perfect syncopation, he flips the screen to face outwards while I press the trigger of the camera in my palm. There is no flash, no glance exchanged, no hesistation in my stride. I hold my face to my lapel and utter, "Tarmogoyf" ... (this is my attempt at being an mtgsalvation rumor distribution agent in the field, thanks for being so creative for us guys. keep em coming, and everyone else should try a 'reaction to the rumor narrative.')
**On topic** Instant, Sorcery, Creature, Land, Enchantment, Artifact, + 2 more. So some insane johnny is gonna play this 8/9 beast for a whopping sum of 1G. This looks pretty cool, and with any amount of dredge this could be pretty hot. Awww, what the heck am I saying, everything that is dredge is hot. Except for golgari brownscale, which makes me think of taking a deuce.
It's not too bad at all, it should be at least a 2/3 for 1G pretty quickly and with 2 new types(making it 7 in total) he's potentially a 7/8 for 1G in the mid-late game with some help. There are good sacrifice lands(expanse/quarter), enchantments(seals), artifacts(gnomes/bauble/star/etc.) and creatures(groundbreaker/echo creatures/spike feeder/etc.) along with heaps of good instants and sorceries which could quickly make him a great cheap beatstick and the best thing is that you don't even have to build around him to do it and he triggers of your opponents cards too.
Even if the 2 new types are rumours or just plain unplayable. He's still got potential as a possible 6/7 for 1G and even a simple 2/3 for 1G is pretty solid. Personally i quite like the idea of 1st turn Terramorphic Expanse sac fetch a basic land, 2nd turn Tarmogoyf, 3rd turn Bottle Gnomes(artifact and creature) sacrifice for 3 life and attack with a 3/4 Tarmogoyf(which would more likely be at least a 4/5 since your opponent will have probably played a instant or sorcery or both).
Thinking with that logic I think Hunter wouldnt have stopped if the new stuff came after instant so at least one of the new types is between Cr and In...this of course could be called speculation but anyway.
You forgot "E" for enchantment.
So, if we want to play this game (which depends on a lot of assumptions), one of the new card types must begin with the letter C, D or E. Looking at two letters, it has to be somewhere between "Cr" and "En".
This could be a very darn good limited/block card ( in limited it's just nuts to get a 4/5 , 3/4 for 2 mana in the early stages of the game, and in Block it's an aggro creature) the possibilities of this cards arevery wide oh and we still have extended to tinker out a playable deck for this guy
