Jhoira of the Ghitu
(8 cards/23 life)
{o3}, Discard a card: Copy two instant cards chosen at random. You may play one of the copies without paying its mana cost.
{o3}, Discard a card: Copy two sorcery cards chosen at random. You may play one of the copies without paying its mana cost. Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery.
Heartwood Storyteller
(7 cards/27 life)
The first creature spell you play each turn costs {o1} less to play.
The first noncreature spell each opponent plays each turn costs {o1} more to play.
which is attendence and which is the winner only one?
The jhoira one seems like it could become its own format much like momir basic

Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled

Yea, Jhoira is sweet, my question is how does the random selection work?
I Hope she is the general participation one, as there will likely be ALOT of Jhoira lovers, both for just aesthetic appeal, and for her ability depending how it works in practice.

Very cool, a new kind of Momir Basic. Too bad you can't use two avatars, or Momir in the same game as Jhoria would be very fun..... Although it works well for online 2HG!

I'm really hoping they program in some weird Momir-Jhoira format. Jhoira basic by itself probably wouldn't work too well since there would be so many useless spells. I guess there are a bunch that would work, and that's why it copies two and gives you the choice, but still...
I'm not sure if a 2-avatar format would be that hard to do, though. I mean, in regular vanguard it would be a mess with deckbuilding, but for just this one format, it could work. Technically vanguard cards just add to your life total and hand size, not reset them, so you could start with 27 life and a hand size of 8. Besides that, both Jhoira and Momir are essentially just cards with activated abilities that start in a special game zone instead of in your library. Right now there's no format that allows for more than one vanguard form, but I desperately hope they create a Momir-Jhoira.

Freeform lets you use multiple avatars, so WotC could just make a varient of that for momir+jhoira.
Oh, and if this the prize avatar, I'm predicting a price upwards of 20 tix, considering that momir was participation and it goes for about 8 tix.
Yeah, but Momir took a long time to rise to 8. It was 3 for many months; it's only 8-9 nowadays because it's been so many months since it was released. So I don't think Jhoira is going to be immediately that expensive, even assuming she is the prize rather than participation avatar.

I hope that Jhoria is the participation avatar. I got bored with Momir Basic, but Momir + Jhoria Basic might be pretty fun. It would add a lot of strategy to the format. The Storyteller avatar looks good, but I don't really play Vanguard very much so I don't know if it will be used.
Add to it the mini-Grand Arbiter Augustin IV ability to make your opponent's control cards cost more... yes. This will be an insane avatar.
And with the wording as "each turn," you could play a reduced creature on your turn and be able to play a reduced Mystic Snake or other flash creature during an opponent's turn... very nice.
Will it be able to compete with the juggernaut that is Oni of Wild Places though? ... wait +7 starting life? yeah, it is awesome.
I can see Johira being a superior avatar to Mortimer in Dredge based decks.

Than and then are very different words.
"I'm going to have more than Natalie Portman" is quite different from "I'm going to have more, then Natalie Portman".
It has similar wording to the momir avatar, so it would be "Copy two instant cards chosen at random (from all of the instant cards programed into MtG:O)." And since you can do the instant one at any time it might be a little better, but note that you can't use the ability with X=0 like you can with Momir in order to play madness cards easier.
I could see Jhoira being an "alternate option" for Momir basic. You can choose to be the aggro player, relying on creatures, or the control player, fending them off with instants and sorceries as you slowly burn them out.

only problem is there is rarely a useless creature, but there are hundreds of useless instants.

Jhoira Basic!
... or how long does it take to find 8-12 burn spell...
Btw. this wont replace momir. Momir is used for very low amounts alot of the time (you are playing stuff like psycothic episode (3 mana normal 2 mana madness selected discard) which funnilly is best on turn 2). btw. remember too that 3 mana is near a fortune in the format. Agro decks curve ends on 4 mana or less and they (mirri and oni) are using 8+ slots for mana acceleration (usually more)...

So does Jhoira make instants and sorceries of any cost for any cost? Or does it only make them based on the costs you pay? Like can I get any mana cost spell just for 1 and discard, or only 1 mana cost spells?

I get Hellbent in every game I play. Maybe I should start playing with Rakdos cards.
FWIW, I have a feeling we'll see a double Vanguard format soonish now. You can, in the 'Open Format' play with multiple Vanguard cards. There's no reason not to expand that to a new 'Basic' for Jhoria and Vig.
