Vote Dragondart because he's already got one vote.
By the way, 2 or 3 random votes on one player is not that bad ; I would rather have that person defend him/herself and then see whether I shall unvote.
4 "random" votes on one person, and we're only at the top of the second page? This is really fishy - this may be my first game, but I've read others, and have NEVER seen a bandwagon develop this quickly.

Defend against what? Its the beginning of the game, random vote stage, and you are already holding people's feet to the fire?

Well, it is one way to obtain information. It is especially efficient when we do not have any clue on anything. I hope of course we lynch scum, yet I know we can afford to lose one townie : of course, if we're about to lynch the Doc or the Cop (if they're in this game), I'm pretty sure they'll defend themselves sufficently. My point is, with someone dead, if it is a townie, we can see and analyse how the vote went, and hopefully catch a few scum. Samething if it is scum which gets lynched the first day : we can see wheter some argumentation sounded wrong. So I really do not mind if a townie dies today, (neither does it bother me to be lynched, for the same reasons) and that is why I won't unvote, at least for now : I must see what dragondart has to say, yet his little intervention doesn't sound right to me. All in all, what I absolutely don't want is a "No lynch".

We need information, but not at the expense of a hasty mislynch. I don't think we are threatened by a no lynch - it is the second RL day. We gain far more information by taking our time, not by drawing lots and seeing where everything stands the following day.
Your mention of a doc and/or cop coming forward is pretty suspect - such information on a Day 1 helps the Mafia much more than the town. It seems very scummy to want to expose a power role so early, so FOS: J-Effe IV

So, my "little intervention" doesn't sound "right?" to you? And then you don't even bother to explain why?
I agree with you that putting pressure on people is the only way we can really get any information before a lynch happens, and we can survive a mis-lynch on a townie. But it's early to be actively pushing a bandwagon like you are doing by claiming (without explaning) that I sound fishy. I have gotten 4 votes, and one unvote in the first 2 pages. Lynching me this soon won't provide much material for analysis. We haven't even heard from everyone yet. I think I am justified in wanting to hear from everyone before getting lynched. Could you please explain why you find my one post suspicious?

a few things i have learned from my only game of mafia so far
a)"no lynch" is really bad as it doesn't really provide any information
b)A lot of people treat FOS on lurkers as a scummy way of voting for someone with out actually voting...so only use FOS on someone you are really suspicious of (don't just keep on FOSing numerous people)
c) its really bad when the cop or the doctor claims, even worse when they are counterclaimed
D) oh and most people claim when there is real suspicion on them and they are lynch-2 (so 5 votes on them when 7 are needed to lynch them)
having said all of that, J-Effe IV's logic is sound. spotofprey also has a good point about not having the cop or the doctor claim early in the game, as giving information to the mafia isn't a good idea.
What has rubbed me the wrong way was Niv-Mizzet the Firemind vote of dragondart just because everyone else was voting for them. I can't tell how serious that random vote is, because it was random, but its also a little bit of barning. Basically barning is when you follow someone else and let them think for you. For future refrence, barning is bad and you should always think for yourself. I know its a random vote, but the worst thing we want is to blindly follow one player and have that person end up being a scum.
finally, I know that we are just in the random voting stage right now, but could we please get a votecount?
Of course I do not want them to claim. You misunderstood me. I mean them not to let themsleves be lynched if we are to.
And i am used to play on a forum where days and nights last only one RL day. So you are right, we can wait, and see what we get. I will nevertheless remain a fervent defender of the so-called "first day hasty lynch". I assure you that it is most efficient.
I should now even ask people to vote Dragondart. Their reasons for following or not will certainly be helpful to the town, believe me.
And... I know most abbreviations, but... what does FOS stands for ?
@ferro_man : I agree. Niv-Wizzet already was on the top of my list.
@Dragondart : Of course, you are absolutely right to wait for everyone to write something. It don't want you (or anyone) to die before everybody has shown up. What was suspiscious, I wouldn't know exactly. The way you don't want to defend yourself. Even your second post is weird to me. Lynching you would actually bring lots of clues, depending on the way you would have been lynched, and whether you were a townie.

from mafiawiki
Finger of Suspicion
Coined by Internet Stranger, and used to formally indicate "you're being watched." It's grown to be more like a Vote, but one that doesn't count towards a Lynch and isn't recorded by the mod.
It's can be a wishy-washy way of saying "I might vote for you." FOS is the abbreviated form, with the much rarer Hand of Suspicion being used for greater-still suspicion, that still may not rise to the level of a vote (reasons vary; the not-quite-voter may be scum trying to pressure a lynch without being on it, or there may be altered Game Mechanics such as unremovable votes).
Using FOS on a lurker is bad, using FOS on an active player who has done a few things that are suspicious is good
@ferro_man : Thanks. That is about what I thought it was.
And as you said earlier, votes like Tripartite Progeny's and Niv-Wizzet's are scummy. I do not want people to follow the vote without arguing ! And I'd say (even if everyone has not shown up yet) that the random vote step is now over.
@ spotofprey : Of course, i would never want a doc or a cop to claim on Day 1. That is suicide. But, again, not when a townie does so. He gets killed during the night, and the real doc/cop (who dindn't claim, of course) are still safe and useful to the town.

I was about to post about Tripartite's seemingly random vote on someone with several "random" votes already on them, but you beat me to it Take this as an "I agree, WTH is going on" post.

I'm not saying that they should claim out of the blue. I'm concerned that the cop and/or doc would claim prematurely due to pressure brought by your "random bandwagon" approach. A claim should only come out from a power role if they truely are in danger, not in some random Day One gambit.
I can also understand where you are coming about needing to hurry. From what I've read on MTGS, Day One's can last pretty long compared to Mafiascum. My point is that we can gather the same amount of information without taking a literal stab in the dark. You explained your post pretty well - what I interpreted as scumminess was just a differing playstyle. I'll UnFOS.
About FOS: I'm pretty opposed to voting for someone on a light matter because of the tendency for a bandwagon to form. With the current situation with DragonDart (I think he is at 4-6 votes, not sure), any mafia that want a speedlynch could jump on and he'd be dead before any chance for a rebuttal. Since speedlynches very, very rarely seem good for the town, I'd like to avoid them. I'll vote when someone deserves it, not because J-Effe is rabble rousing
And... I know most abbreviations, but... what does FOS stands for ?
Finger of Suspicion (like a vote, but has no consequences)
@Dragondart : Of course, you are absolutely right to wait for everyone to write something. It don't want you (or anyone) to die before everybody has shown up. What was suspiscious, I wouldn't know exactly. The way you don't want to defend yourself. Even your second post is weird to me. Lynching you would actually bring lots of clues, depending on the way you would have been lynched, and whether you were a townie.
As for not wanting to defend myself, of course I want to. But if I try to fervently to defend myself, that could easily be read as a scumtell (or a power role tell). Apparently acknowledging the futility of a "trust me, I'm town" defense is also a scumtell. Nobody wants to die right now, so defending myself could mean I am town, or that I'm scum. I am willing to die after a bit more discussion, because (as you say) it will give us something to work from, whatever side I'm on (and the same is true for everyone else).
Knowing that you usually play where one day=one day, I think I can see why you would want someone (regardless of who) to die asap, because if someone doesn't, the town gets less information. Given that situation, bandwagoning quickly would be far preferable to a non-lynch first day. But we don't have that time constraint here. Lynching me will bring information. The longer the day goes before that happens, the more information we'll get. I'm willing to die sooner rather than later if it helps us figure out who the scum is. At this point if I turn up town we have a few leads, and if I turn up scum then that's one scum down. That said, I think I like your proposal to encourage others to vote for me at the moment. Their reasoning for doing so, or not doing so, would definitely help later on.
I'd like to hear from Niv Mizzet and Tripartite Progeny. Both are claiming to be "random" voting while joining a bandwagon at the same time. That doesn't make much sense to me. How is voting for the person with the most votes "random"?
J-Effe, you are using a LOT of scumlogic. You also claim to have played other games of mafia on a different site. It's possible that everyone used logic like that on that site, but I truly doubt it. I am confident enough to FoS J-Effe. I would make that a full vote, but I have another target...

both of these are good reasons for a votecount (the fact that we could have put him at lynch -1 or -2 without even realizing it, and the fact that some of us are already forgetting who we have voted for). If dragondart is at 6 votes, i would like to request that someone unvotes for him before someone hammers him without knowing the correct votecount.
We don't want to speedlynch dragondart on accident.
yeah, like you forgot you voted for me in your first post...:p

i agree fully here. we need a votecount. no point in accidentally making the scum's job easier, right?
based on what i've read, i'll have to go and point the FoS: j-effe and tripartite. j-effe is pushing for the fast lynch, and tripartite just blindly jumped on that wagon. i'm pretty close to just voting for tripartite outright, but i will give him the opportunity to respond to the suspicious post before committing to it

It does, but at that point, we were getting out of the random vote stage.
Niv, you are looking more and more suspicious. The fact that you seem to try and join bandwagons with minimal explaination seems a bit odd. I'm not outright saying you're scum, but I AM going to keep an eye on you, for sure. FoS Niv.
I would like to wait until Trip shows up BEFORE we get any more votes on him please. Lynching people without giving them a chance to talk helps no one.

Not knowing about foses ESPECIALLY when there's a FREAKIN explanation of them on the previopus page makes me think that niv-mizzet isn't paying attention to the game. Also, the bandwagonning makes me suspicious. Fos Niv-mizzet.
However, Tripartite is much more scummy, of course you random vote the guy with 3-4 votes on him, then do nothing else. I think tripartite is more scummy than niv, but not the scummiest yet.Fos Tripartite Progeny
Meanwhile, J-effe IV is scummiest to me. He pushed for essentially a random lynch, which takes away the real power of day 1, which is analises of votes and play style. J-effe wants to take that away, and pushes for the worst kind of lynch; a random one. Vote J-effe
EBWoDP;
That last paragraph should have Unvote, Vote J-effe IV
I think tripartite is very scummy, because we had already jumped on Niv for bandwagonning, and geuss what tripartite does.
Niv's posting could feasibly be newb factor, but also could be an attempt to deflect suspicion. Worth keeping my eye on, but not worth a FoS just yet.
Trip's post bugs me. Granted the game has only just started, but Trip's only post at all being a bandwagon vote with literally no other content rubs me the wrong way.
J-Effe is also one I'm gonna keep my eye on. Being partial to a hasty strat due to playing on a site where the games are forced to be faster pace is understandable, but declaring that you're aware of the difference yet still supporting that strategy seems poor at best, suspicious at worst.
2) When exactly do you feel a player should be getting vibes?
isn't it interesting, tapper, that the guy whose only words in this game have been about "no real vibes so early" is the one who has the most votes per words typed?
i think it's perfectly justifiable to get vibes this early when they are total SCUM vibes. it's nice, tripartite, that you're seemingly random-voting and/or voting against someone who challenges you... but we've asked you to explain your scummy wagon-jump, and your explanation is incompatible with your actions so far. i'm willing to give you one more chance; for now, ultra-mega-super-colossal-FoS: tripartite.
answer this question: why should we not think your voting pattern is scummy when you do not explain your votes at all?

Nice OMGUS vote (for those of you who don't know, OMGUS = Oh My God, You Suck!).
So how should we vote if we shouldn't be getting "vibes"? Should we resign ourselves to letting a townie get speedlynched, as you (and J-Effe) seem to want?
No. Day 1, as Faeren said, is for seeing how people play. Yes, it often results in a townie lynch, but most of the time, that's ok. Why? Because we get information about people's playstyles, and something to look at for further days.
I think Trip is the play for today. He blatantly joined a bandwagon, and followed it up with a weak excuse and an OMGUS vote. I would like to hear more from him in particular, and J-Effe, the second-scummiest player in this game, as well.

I want an explanation for this. Why would a townie who claims necessarily be killed during the night? You speak of the mafia nightkill as if you control it.
I don't think you should get any real vibes from anyone so early in the game.

Actually, you can get real vibes from people this early in the game, and in the one game of mafia that i have ever played (replaced mirari in clan contest mafia), we ended up lynching the mafia godfather on day 1 because of the vibe we had gotten from him

a thing to keep in mind is that an OMGUS vote can be viewed as scummy. An omgus vote with logic behind why you are voting for that person IS NOT.
Trip's vote is an OMGUS without logic, and therefore it looks rather scummy.
I agree with myrf that trip and j-effe look like the most viable lynch options for day 1, so I will unvote. I am going to refrain from voting until we get a vote count. And again, so that its not missed, mod prod zionite
OK, OK my bad on the mafia etiquette: un-FoS zionite.
i was unaware we could call for a prod; i think i skipped reading rule #7. (bad on me...) i only understood about calling for a votecount because others were as well.

11. Lastly, and most importantly, please respect me and the other players. I used to put a bit here about the small number of players I’ve had to mod-kill, but that number has been growing. Let’s not continue the trend, k?

By the way, 2 or 3 random votes on one player is not that bad ; I would rather have that person defend him/herself and then see whether I shall unvote.

Defend against what? Its the beginning of the game, random vote stage, and you are already holding people's feet to the fire?
9 out of 12 players have already made their presence known. Is that about the normal pace for these games?

Using FOS on a lurker is bad, using FOS on an active player who has done a few things that are suspicious is good
And as you said earlier, votes like Tripartite Progeny's and Niv-Wizzet's are scummy.
Finger of Suspicion (like a vote, but has no consequences)
I think I can excuse Niv's as a poor attempt at random voting. Trip, on the other hand, added in his AFTER the whole debate was going. I think he's my pick for today. Vote Trip.
Curse my poor memory.
both of these are good reasons for a votecount (the fact that we could have put him at lynch -1 or -2 without even realizing it, and the fact that some of us are already forgetting who we have voted for).

UNVOTE TRIP

Millionaires, I hear it's good Music (Disclaimer: lyrics not PG-13) Thanks, CC
Vote J-effe

Post 24 struck me as somewhat scummy. At the risk of making Tripartite Progeny mad, call it 'vibes'. Will elaborate later.
isn't it interesting, tapper, that the guy whose only words in this game have been about "no real vibes so early" is the one who has the most votes per words typed?
i think it's perfectly justifiable to get vibes this early when they are total SCUM vibes. it's nice, tripartite, that you're seemingly random-voting and/or voting against someone who challenges you... but we've asked you to explain your scummy wagon-jump, and your explanation is incompatible with your actions so far. i'm willing to give you one more chance; for now, ultra-mega-super-colossal-FoS: tripartite.
answer this question: why should we not think your voting pattern is scummy when you do not explain your votes at all?

Mindlessly lynching someone is only efficient from a scum's point of view. Can you pretty please explain in which way a hasty lynch benefits the town?
This is even odder. Why should anyone have any reason following you with this?
I want an explanation for this. Why would a townie who claims necessarily be killed during the night? You speak of the mafia nightkill as if you control it.
like i said earlier, FOSing lurkers is a bad thing to do and rather scummy
what god of cyanide should have done was mod prod zionite so that the mod can remind zionite that the game has started
