This thread is for the discussion of my latest article, MTGCast #61: I Need a Duelist Issue #1. We would be grateful if you would let us know what you think, but please keep your comments on topic.
Glad you enjoyed the cast and it almost felt strange to have all three of us on at the same time. But, hopefully our schedules will allow for Sunday recording times again and the pure adrenaline rush from the upcoming Worldwide game day!
Type 2 Generations Tier 1 deck comparisons sounds fun! How about RECONSTRUCTING those decks (with proxies, if need be) and having fun seeing which ones do the best against each other! Maybe just take each world champion's Type 2 deck from the last 13 years or so (since Alexander Blumke in '94), and try them all out. I know the deck lists are available somewhere on WOTC's website. I remember that a few Magic Invitationals ago they had an "Auction of the Champions" where the invitees auctioned off their life points and starting hand count to get the champion's decks they wanted. I think Finkel ended up with Zak Dolan's T1 first-ever world champion deck (a copy, of course), and he totally kicked butt with it, even with a starting card count of like 3, and starting life count of like 15.
Go Warriors! Isn't Lovisa Coldeyes an auto-include? Also, I'm totally excited that Goblin Balloon Brigade got errated to "Goblin Warrior," so it's all about 3/3 flying Warriors for 1 mana with Lovisa in play!
Rats are definitely more filthy, if I'm understanding the question correctly. But it's bird _____ I'm usually having to clean off my car.
Thanks for the great show! I look forward to your trade stories next week.
You guys have a nice personality balance as show hosts:
Dom--the silly antagonist. Even though he doesn't have a whole lot of important things to say, he sure keeps it fun to listen to--kind of like a David Letterman of Magic podcasting. Gavin--the serious tournament/wider Magic world expert; the calming, rational, level-headed, influence on the show. Tom--the focused-on-fun player (Go Tribal Time!). I'm thinking he's more of a Timmy or Johnny type of player, which appeals to two-thirds of the Magic community (imho), including me.
Put all three together and you get the makings of a great, fun, entertaining and worth-your-time show! Keep up the awesome work!
Sorry that i'm getting to this late...I'm a little behind on my podcasts!...
Anyway, I totally agree w/ TestDrive...I think comparing the old-school decks with the current decks would be a lot of fun...and interesting!...Although, one thing to take into consideration is which rules the old-school decks were played with...doesn't Pros-Bloom have more effectiveness with the pre-6th rules? (couldn't you go below 0 life and not die with those rules??)...anyway, I could be out of my mind, but I thought that was the case...
Also, Tribal Time...yeah, I don't care what Dom says...it's FUN...keep that up, Tom!...(If you bribe Dom w/ some Lucky Charms, I'm sure he'll warm up to the idea...)
Another idea for the show might be to go over some of the basic trading techniques of what to look for in a trade, who to approach, who to stay away from, how to spot the traders who are strictly trying to take advantage of you, etc...kind of like a 'Trader Beware' mini-series...(obviously not a PERMANENT show segment, but you could work it in for a 3 or 4 shows)...
Anyway, I hope you guys actually see this post and haven't un-subscribed from it in lieu of show #62!!!

Yeah, you didn't die from low life until the end of a phase.
