Thumbs down InQuest Magazine Discontinued

From Wizard Entertainment:

Quote:
"After many years of producing InQuest Gamer magazine, we have decided to discontinue its publication effective September, 2007. We will continue to support gaming in our industry leading magazines, online and at our conventions. We thank our dedicated staff for all their hard work, as well as our partners and readership for their loyal support. - Fred Pierce President, COO Wizard Entertainment"
Reported at the official site here. First reported to me by a friend who used to Freelance for them.

This isn't the first gaming magazine canned this year either

I remember InQuest #0 it had an article about v:tm in it and i think leviathan from the dark was in there top 10 best cards. how times have changed and while the magazine dies i think i feel a little bit of my childhood dying with it.

rip inquest

Wow. Definitely did not see this coming. I've been collecting Inquest since issue 80ish (i'd actually have to check what my oldest issue is). I hope you can still order back issues, since I have a few holes in my collection.

What are they replacing its function with? I hope this isn't because MTG sales are flagging, and Wizards needs to conserve overall budget.

Inquest was operated by Wizard Entertainment, the makers of Wizard Magazine, not Wizards of the Coast.

So, what will happen to the rest of my subscription?

I guess that does it for me and Magic magazines. Scrye has been subpar for some time now.

It's possible the magazines are feeling the same crunch that the major newspaper outlets have suffered. The internet is simply the best way to get your news, whether it's about the world or Magic or any other game. Especially with Magic, where the metagame could have shifted twice by the time a magazine hits the shelves. On top of this, ask yourselves if you can name 3 'major' magazine writers for Magic? I can't even name 1. Now name 3 major online contributors? You get my point.

And I just got InQuest #148 and 149.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. I've been collecting it since #41, not long after I started playing.

That pretty much covers it. Magic, especially Standard, is so fast-moving that a magazine with a 1-2 month lead time simply can't stay relevant when compared to Internet resources.

So how many Magic magazines are left? All I can count is Scrye and Beckett Magic. It's really sad. But Inquest never provided useful Magic information anyways. Times are changing. The internet is becoming a more prominent source for exchanging ideas. There just aren't enough deck building ideas in the magazine. While it was fun to read, I don't believe it'll change how many of us play Magic.

Though InQuest wasn't that great for Magic info, I very much enjoyed alot of the material in the magazine. I believe I have been getting it since Issue #50, and it sucks that they are closing up shop.

Actually, Beckett Magic folded too.

Scrye is all that's left.
