A friend sent me the image below and I was struck by it's similarity to the textless foil Wrath of God artwork (below right). It looks like it is done by Ron Spencer and given it is a fair bit darker than the Wrath image but very similar composition my immediate reaction was "Wow, that is probably a textless Damnation!" I'm not sure exactly where the image came from... I think it was included in a Magic Online update or was on the wizards site somewhere, I'll try and find out when I next talk to the person that sent it to me.
Anyway, I was wondering what promo they could do to top a textless foil Wrath of God, if it is indeed a Damnation with this art it will be very cool!
Ahh ruin a card that needs to drop in price cough stupid tarmogoyf cough not a perfectly reseanoble and good card which i get three playsets of... damn wizards lol descent art though and its nice that u can put both the textless damnation and normal against textless *** and regualar for comparison art wise...

Life's end, isn't it beautiful... its almost tragic.
What's odd about that card is that it looks nothing like the Damning of a soul. Not that they could show that on a card, but still. It looks just like a crater of death. Hardly perpetuates the theme of Damning.

The one mistake many people make is thinking they know more than their enemies.
God/damn, this is awesome. I never got the foil wrath, it'll be really nice get some damnations. I actually like the duality theme that spencer has going on. I'd much rather have another wrath than pithing needle, because wrath can be played in more decks.
It looks ugly, as did the MPR Wrath, but if WOTC decides to botch the print runs for these again then I wouldn't care if it didin't have any art at all.
Wrath will probably be replaced by Damnation in 11th Edition. They will probably have NO original cards in 11th Edition... they'll probably rename it simply "Core" or something. Anyway, I called this during the prerelease when somebody was questioning what the MPR would be... I straight up said "Damnation" and everyone kind of reluctantly agreed. It makes more than sense and I consider this confirmation,.
Wait, why are so many people talking about this as if it's been confirmed? Has it really been confirmed or is this still just speculation?
Given, it does look totally possible I just was under the impression that nothing was set in stone yet.
Personally I like it waaaay better then the originial Damnation art (if by chance this is Damnation).
I'm not really that worried about the value of Damnation dropping by much. It's still a really popular card, where as Psi Blast was more of a "Wow, cool an old card in blue that dealt damage!!" it was cool, but not really seen in a lot of decks.
I figure at very worse it would only drop the price of regular damnations by a few bucks if anything. I'm sure Damnation wouldn't drop under 10 if they did do this.
And although I do hate the idea of making expensive cards more accessible. I think it compensates for it they make the card that much prettier and foily. Ohhhh, I love shiny cards a lot.
art looks pretty ugly to me, *whine*-needle-*whine* but it's a good card for rewards, logically following ***.
billythefridge, interesting idea about 11th, though i don't think it'll happen, who knows
MPR promos do not, and never have, reduced the value of the origional card. That's like saying Eddie Bower suvs reduce the resale value of regular suvs. Adding a few thousand super bling-y damnations to the market which contains hundreds of thousands of damnations won't even put a dent in demand. 1% greater availability by adding a version of the item that is 4% more desirable will leave the price unnafected.
Unless you get one in the mail, then your price was FREE.
yuck. Never liked the *** variant... and liked even less when people who got too many of them tried to trade them off on you like they were gold bricks.
Wrath will probably be replaced by Damnation in 11th Edition.
I don't see any reason to believe this. People have to remember that the vast majority of the timeshifted cards are supposed to be an "alternate universe," not part of the normal world of Magic. Since R&D have made repeated efforts to re-emphasize that mass creature destruction is still white, that control is a key part of white's flavor, etc. etc. (and since they've continued to print other wrath effects since PC in white, not black) one can reasonably assume that Damnation was not intended to fill that core set role.

To be completely fair, prodigal pyromancer was in 10th.
Otherwise, I agree, if damnation is ever in a core set, it'll be a few down the road when they need another core set gimmick.
Completely agreed here. The old Damnation art is better, anyhow. There is nothing that makes me want this.
I completely disagree with you I've hated the Damnation and new Wrath arts forever and always, this one is several orders of magnitude better. And it's definitely Ron Spencer! Wewt! (For giggles, I also noticed he did the art for Goatnapper ;))

Textless cards-Incinerate, undoubtedly IMO, I would love to see a promo goyf but there is no chance...

I was thinking the exact same thing!
To me it looks like Death Cloud, cuase its smoke, and there are bats in the smoke. Like the old DC art.

The art could be of standard after goyf hit it.
Anyhoo, I don't mind the idea, but goyf would have been so much nicer.
ie I can actually get damnations, and ones that look GOOD too.
One other thing, does it look like there are gay lovers in the bottom right hand corner?:confused2:
