It would make an interesting Story Arc of Yawgy-poo proportions. The 6th color appears or reappears. It presence causes an imbalance. The planewalkers of the other 5 colors take action. Seeking to either bring the new color equal to them restoring the balance or obliterating it before it can become like the other 5.
The rest ain't that hard, even someone with a small amount of creativity can give it one of those (crappy) philosophies, an iconic small and iconic big race, a basic land and a flavorful card of each type.
We said the same thing about planeswalkers an they never made those...oh wait.
But the key difference here is the 6th color "question" comes up for EVERY set. The Planeswalker debate didn't happen until we saw Tarmogoyf and it ended when Lorwyn spoilers started coming in.
So they are very different things. The closest thing to a 6th color we will ever get is Snow. The only other possibility would be something a colorless color. Now I know that sounds weird, so let me explain it. artifacts can be paid with generic mana, but what if they made cards that you could only play if you explicitly used colorless mana?

No, for the simple reality that if a sixth color was permanent it would have alot of catching up to do. Furthermore, what sort of abilites (discard, burn, draw, pump, gain life, etc.) would u give it? The five colors already take up 99% of possible effects and the only way I could see a sixth color possible is if it took stuff/shared stuff with the other colors, which would completely throw off the current balance of colors (more so than now).
And if the sixth color wasn't permanent, just a one block gimmick, than it'd be weirder and weaker than arcane. Either way you cut it, if a sixth color was made, it would be widely perceived as a 'jumping the shark' moment.

The Planewalker debates weren't new. People have been asking for and spekkalatin' about them for years. And the obvious reason for the lack of 'walkers was....they are too powerful!! They get infinite mana, while we don't, so much for us being 'walkers.
The extra color would be fine in T2. In a couple sets it'll be fine in Extended. The ancient formats might need to wait awhile. And casual players would use it just cause they can.
Having a sixth color is a bad idea, unless it's meant to be merely for the sake of storyline.
Planeswalkers and having a 6th color are two different things, its like a 5 year old kid asking his mum why cant he have the latest most expensive toy VS why cant he have an abortion.
Besides what color will it be? Purple? Besides Planeswalkers fit nicely into the game mechanism, they are basically sort of like very advanced enchantments that can be hit to death or something. Having a sixth color does not merely add a new color/faction, it has highly detrimental effects on the basis of the game.
Well, we do have a 6th kind of mana thats not WBGUR and that is colorless. Also, Snow permanents make snow mana, so that is color 7. What the question is, when is the 8th color of mana going to show up?

"Wizards could put $100 bills in packs and people would complain about how they were folded."
From my elementary school statistics, I would have to say that your poll is biased. You have like 3 options for No and only one option for Yes. That's just telling us you expect us to vote no, which will cause more "no"s than "yes"s.
But disregarding that, a new color to the game would be great. Magic needs some change. Also, Wizards now has room to make one of the colors the planeswalker and tribal color. That's just screaming out a place for purple.
Heh, i've been hearing about this since like 1995 or so.
One of the main reasons there would never be a sixth colour is right on the back of the cards.
Not to mention how would the enemy/friend thing work for it? It just wouldn't happen.
Right, this topic has been around for a while.
But colorless mana isnt on the back of cards, and it exists.
Hybrid mana exists.
THere are four orange dots on the back of each Magic card, what do those represent?
I would imagine that the 8th color would be the enemy of all.

To be fair the 4 orange dots are about as red as the dot which stands for the red mana.
Maybe there should be a more specific poll about whether wizards should include a 6th/8th color permanently instead of only as a block mechanism?
Either way it sounds like a bad idea to me. Planeswalkers I find easier to dismiss, should they prove much less popular or hard to control. A new color would require a whole wide new spectrum of cards, possibly a whole expansion dedicated to it, which may be very unpopular with the masses...thus a bad bussiness idea.
Maybe I lack imagination, but having a new, balanced color would require a new set of motifs and distinct abilities to associate with it, what is there that is not already assimilated into one of the 5 colors?
Well, like hybrid mana, it would have to occupy a special niche that isnt around right now, maybe it would be a combination of aspects of all the other colors.
I really don't want an eighth color, mind you.
Although, it would be a based on a type of terrain, and the current wbrgu lands are sufficient in describing all landscapes, and all other terrain features would be described as a combination of the others.

Voice of All does a great job of protecting itself from Ghostfire, doesn't it?
Hybrid mana isn't a new color, though, it's just a way of paying a cost. You can't add 'U/B' to your mana pool, and if the game asks you to pick a color, you can't choose 'U/B'
They represent a badly done layout.
Do you even understand how enemies and allies work? Throwing that entire philosophical discussion aside, your idea of it being the 'enemy of everything' doesn't work out mechanically, either. If they were to introduce 'purple', or something, it would need a huge amount of support and strong cards. Mono-purple decks wouldn't be viable in an eternal format almost no matter what. Unless purple was supposed to be pointless, there would need to be dual lands.
But it's against policy to print to many enemy duals. Do you know why it's against policy? Because beginning players need to learn how allies are the most synergistic. It's an important facet of the game, really.
I do not support an eighth color, but if it did come across, it would represent a different terrain that dosent currently exist. A new color would have to fill a new terrain type that dosent currently exist. Every piece of land that I have ever been to personally prettymuch fits within a combination of magic lands.

The colors aren't really Red=fire, green=earth, white=light, blue=water, black=dark
They're more of a mental state than physical.
Red= Emotion, passion
Green= in tune with nature
White= balance, community, honor
Blue= intelligence, "mental" magic
Black= power, and gaining it at all costs
personally one of the greatest things about the magic color pie is that it's NOT based on the elements. sure, each color has elemental connections, but you don't play "fire" cards, you play "red" cards, which means so much more. it separates the colors of magic from more generic fantasy magic and gives the flavor SO MUCH more depth.
the color pie is what makes magic such a great game and it really can't be changed without ruining the balance and flavor of magic
They actually have put some thought into another color (Purple, actually), but it never panned out. I think the basic problem was they couldn't come up with enough ways to differentiate it mechanically without unbalancing the color pie. Magic is pretty solid the way it is though.
the colours of magic are really great split, i dont think another colour will fit at all, we arent like pokemon to have elements also colours of basic are kinda basic colours, other colours if they ever come(NOO) will probably be from mixed colours that we already have(purple = blue/red )
the colours of magic are wonderfully split, covering , i can say everything we can imagine, power, wisdom, justice chaos rage, honor and keep going.....!
the multicoloured cards are the thing that magic needed to be more versatile and it has been covered long ago!
even ''lifeless'' things are covered
