And so it was that the forces of the four paladins converged. The heroic armies of the noble Northern and Southern Paladins did fight against the vile, corrupt forces of the Western and Eastern Paladins. The land would revile this day, for all corners of Dominaria could hear the terrified screams of the dying, and the sky did darken, the sun unable to bear witness to the horrors any longer.
The hoard fought savagely, but just when all seemed lost, the forces of Good heard the rallying cries of the paladins calling them to arms, and they did unite to raise arms together, perhaps for the last time.
But Fortune was kinder. Caught unawares, the demonic hoard fell back, and the dark paladins watched as their army was cleft through the middle. The battle had turned, and soon there was none left of the dark forces but the paladins themselves, flanked with only a handful of companions.
The Northern and Southern Paladins grimly advanced. “Surrender,” they cried, “And receive justice for the multitudes you have slaughtered.”
But Fate had writ a different tale. The Paladins were the ones who first heard the spell, but paragons of martial prowess though they were, even they could do nothing to stop it. Soon the spell was cast, and, in an instant, chaos fell over the forces of Dominaria.
For the Paladins had invoked a great spell, saved lest they should ever come this close to death. To the horror of all there, no one could recognize the identities of anyone else.
“Let it be known!” One voice cried out, “That we, who know not the identities of the treacherous, must settle this matter not through war, but holy inquisition!”
“Hear, hear! Inquisition!” Came the united reply.
And so this mafia game has begun.
How it all works:
1. The game will begin during day. During the day, anyone may post anything they want as long as it is not directly in violation of forum rules. People may also Vote by saying Vote ___ in bold with a person’s name. When a majority has voted for a person, that person will be lynched and day will end.
2. When day ends, night begins. Night will last for three days realtime. During night, no one may post.
3. When someone is lynched, it will be revealed whether they are mafia or town. However, nothing else will be revealed.
Rules of interest:
1. I reserve the right to remove you from the game at any time for any reason.
2. There is to be absolutely NO PMing anyone, except me, about this game unless your role specifically allows you to.
3. You may not quote PMs, especially not from me.
4. Do not post after you are dead, for any reason.
Whoo, game on! Good morning fellows and ladies, if you are out there...
What's up Puzzle? looking forward to your usual plans, lol. I've never been one to random vote, but wow, 29 people! This'll be a blast!

How many scum do you think there are? The usual 1/4 ratio leads to think 7-8. But I'm not sure if there's a SK in this game because of the setup, so mafia could be more powerful than usual. Also, could it be possible that there are two separate mafia groups (like one for Western Paladin and one for Eastern)?
That's a good question. Given there's probably a bunch of people aligned with each of the 5 colors, that could easily be 5-6 aligned White, 5-6 aligned Black with about 17-19 effectively "neutral" in the matter. So, it could really be open as to whom is working for each side.
And, of course, given the "Inquisition" nature of things... yeah, there just might be 2 Mafias here...

Hrm? FOS Armlx ...Crippled didn't seem to "know too much" at all. It is natural to speculate that there may be 2 mafia groups because there is plainly two sets of "bad guys" in the flavor text..east and west. Even if he is incorrect, that does not warrant a vote at all. Additionally, if you were referring to his speculation on how many mafia, that's not fishy either...it is usually natural to have about 1/4 mafia.

Right now, based strictly on the set-up, I'd say there does appear to be a slightly higher probablilty of a black mafia. There are only 4 cards we can be reasonably sure will be in the game--the 4 paladins--two of which are white and two of which are black.
Here's some additional quick research, assuming that we are sticking to cards from 7th Edition. Each color has between 27-32 creatures in it. Red, black, and white have 27; blue has 29; and green has 32. Not sure what to do with this yet, however, as there are far too many possible claims to effectively pin someone down, even if the mafia are all of a color. Perhaps color claims, at some point in the future, might do the most to give an idea of the set-up. As I write this, I am wary, however, since if the town does have two paladins in white, we probably don't want to expose them to the mafia in that way.

Hmmm. Well, I suppose it's possible that the mafia have been split into two separate groups. The two groups of followers might not recognize each other, either. Thing is, if there are two separate mafia, I'd doubt that they have opposed win conditions. They'll probably have to suffer through crossfire if that is the case, but it wouldn't make much sense from a game design point of view to have the two groups' win conditions based around killing each other, when they were working together until now.
When we do reach night, I wouldn't be surprised if we face at least two kills from the mafia, one for each paladin. On top of that, a SK or two might also make sense, especially if the two mafia groups have been split and divided, as it stated they were in the initial game description. If its just two mafia groups flailing blindly at each other, without SKs, they'd be in a lot of trouble given the size of the game.
One stupid idea : what if there were two mafias, one black and one white ?
I'd suggest focusing on the black paladins first, but that idea should maybe be kept in mind for the late game, just on case.
Well, if you read the flavour in Highroller's post, you'll see that the Northern and Southern (white) paladins are the good guys, and we're trying to root out the Eastern and Western (black) paladins.
While two Mafia groups is possible, the way 'Roller's described things makes it seem like the Eastern and Western sides are allied. We'll just have to see though.

Just checking in to show I'm reading and know the game has started. Though this is my first game I have read some of the games at misetings and seen how Elite players play. I have seen several magic mafias been wrecked be color claiming. Would this be a good idea seeing as each color only has between 27-32 creatures to pin the mafia down?

Unfortunately, I've played in one of 'Rollers Dominaria Mafia games, and he really doesn't use specific creatures for the roles, and I don't think he distributed the colours out evenly. And when each colour has enough creatures to give a role to all the players...well, you get the picture.

We will almost certainly have to wait for night to fall before we can even begin to get a real fix on the way things are set up. Based on the number of deaths and any info we might glean from the "descriptions" of said deaths.
I'm also apprehensive about getting 15 votes on someone day 1 in a non-random fashion. This is the drawback of large games. We have nothing to go on, but 15 people need to agree before anyone can be lynched. We could be in for a very long day one. Which is not necessarily bad. But could be tedious.

About the SK:s, who do you think they might be? I mean in flavor part, as they aren't any specific creatures according to Dusk_. Some blue opportunists maybe? Or some crazed red goblins?
By specific, I meant he didn't have a common theme in the creatures.
Here's a link to the one I played in, the roles are somewhere in the middle of the page. And yes, the Mafia do have abilities, and yes, the number of players in each colour is random (Red had 5, Green 6, Blue 7, Black 6, White 6, Artifact 1).
Checking in. There seems to be a lot of first-time players here.
Not really much to say, though I do think the idea of having a split mafia could be right for this game (if I were hosting a game of this size, that would be a great way to help break the mafia into more manageable groups, while allowing for at least 2 kills a night). So from a pragmatic standpoint, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. The idea of the Paladins also makes sense for it; each of the groups would have its own Paladin.
Kenji, do you have a reason to believe that we're all the same rarity?

the more people the more people to hop on a bandwagon. and the mafia(s), sk(s), and vigi(s) might go on a killing spree in the night.
I'm against vigs using there ability until they are 100% positive that they are targeting scum or with the towns full approval. In Mtg mafia on miseting a vig almost single handedly lost the game for the town. In several magic mafias the SK was a artifact maybe a Phrexian Collosus
But still, what do you think the SK (or the SKs) might be? I don't know if this really helps us in any way, but as I said earlier, discussion is never a bad thing
I have to agree with Tyros, Artifact would make the most sense for a SK. I can't remember much of Seventh's card list, so I doubt I could be more specific in ideas.
Again pure speculation but perhaps all townies are one rarity, one mafia group another and the 2nd mafia group another still. But I honestly don't know where to go with this.
One problem. All the Paladins are the same Rarity. Of course, we all might be Rares (Paladins are Rare, right?), but no way of knowing for sure, really.
If we go under the assumption that everyone is Rare, there are only 48 rare creatures in 8th edition, and 46 rare creatures in 7th edition. That could be very useful in narrowing down the pool of possible claims.
However, it's also very possible that there are uncommons. I believe that in the game Dusk_ linked to, there were some players with uncommon roles, right? I assume it would be necessary in order to have the flavor accommodate the abilities.
Should we do a rarity claim? The theory has been put forth we are all rares. This would severly limit claims for scum if it were true. There are only 46 rare creatures in 7th. IT doesn't seem plusible to me but maybe it might spark some disscussion.
I have to agree with Tyros, Artifact would make the most sense for a SK. I can't remember much of Seventh's card list, so I doubt I could be more specific in ideas.
I'm rare too, but there are some flavorful common creatures in Dominaria. There might be Llanowar Elves or Drudge Skeletons going around.
edit: I don't think a Llanowar Elf player would step forward and tell it. A common creature will most likely be a peasant role, thus, yelling "I am common" would mean "I'm not one of the bad guys". And it would be a bad idea for anyone to say this, since it might be too easily suspected as a mafia tactic.
DUDE, YOU EDITTED!!!
Well...depending on how vengeful 'Roller's feeling...we might not have to make a Lynch...
Highroller does not specifically ban editing in the initial post, though he reserves the right to remove people from the game at any time for any reason, and I guess this could fall under that.

Vive, vale. Siquid novisti rectius istis,

First: on Greebo's odd idea of lynching the last person to post three lines or whatever it was, this is not really helpful. We all have different schedules and stuff, we can't all be on the site checking for updates 24/7. I for example just got home from work.
Second: I agree that a rarity claim could help narrowing down the field, but we needn't rush things too much. I think it is highly possible, maybe even highly probable that there are people who don't correspond to rares.
Third: I can see how there could be two mafia groups, with the introduction. I would guess though that they would be working toward the same goal however.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this game pans out.
It should be assumed for ALL mafia games that editing is not allowed, unless specifically permitted.
Anyway, while we wait to see if someone comes forward as common or uncommon, we might as well discuss something else. If the Paladins are true to their flavor, then they should be inherently strong against their enemy colors (the black paladins are anti green and white, while the white paladins are anti red and black). Does this mean that the blue roles will have some kind of survival advantage? Or can we assume that the Paladins are not necessarily set up that way?
edit: I don't think a Llanowar Elf player would step forward and tell it. A common creature will most likely be a peasant role, thus, yelling "I am common" would mean "I'm not one of the bad guys". And it would be a bad idea for anyone to say this, since it might be too easily suspected as a mafia tactic.
...or it could be intrepreted as someone coming forward to let us now that we aren't all rares.
You can't second-guess the game like that, otherwise the flow of information, false or otherwise, would stop. Every time that someone comes forward and volunteers information, we can't 100% trust it. But just because the information we receive might be wrong, doesn't mean we should stop searching for information altogether. The less knowledge we have, the better the mafia is able to hide.
The fact that you're trying to stifle the flow of information, especially on an item as critical as this, is not a point in your favor. The mafia has an interest in preventing the town from learning if everyone is a rare: if it's narrowed down, the town gains a powerful weapon to track them and box them into claims.
Besides: if only one or two people came forward to say "I'm common" or "I'm uncommon", attention would immediately be focused on them. As a mafia agent, that's not something you want to have happen. So I doubt we'd have to worry too much about false claims misleading us into thinking we have a false rarity distribution. And from the way things are going right now, it looks very likely we're all rares, and that the mafia are going to have a tough time.
Actually, Greebo's posts have disturbed me a bit. I'm getting a scummy vibe from him, and I feel it might not be a bad idea if he's the first one we should put pressure on. I'm going to Vote Greebo for now.

From the standpoint of the signups mod, I would like to say a few things:
One: Unless a host specifically allows edits (I have, in the past) there is to be none. Greebo should feel lucky if he survives his edit.
Two: Double posting is not allowed as per forum rules. There are enough people reading the thread to make your wait to post a second thing less than fifteen minutes.
Three: A mafia game is not the the place to spam. Announcements of checking in, telling that you will be gone for several hours, and the like, are not to be tolerated any further. I will complain about people using mafia games to ++ to the mods. As of now I have several spam posts seen here, and I will list them: AlphaInsideous-Post 4, 15
Chrome Moxen-Post 8
UrbanDruid-Post 20
Puzzle-Post 24
Stevie-Post 26
Musashi-Post 28
Tyros-Post 45 (the link broke the page margins and was unnecessary, as the location of the cardlist was previously mentioned)
All posts stating that they agree with someone, and nothing else
All posts stating that the poster also would like to see a rarity claim
Azrael-Post 61 Doubleposting with something that is useless is not contributing to the thread.
Were I a mod of this board, each and every one of these posts, except maybe Tyros's would be warned.
If you are not adding content to the thread, you are not assisting, you are simply being someone else's barn. Stop now.

Really, even with 7th edition, I doubt Highroller would put in any commons/uncommons...is there something that I'm missing here, or do we know that there are commons/uncommons out there?
Because asking for a uncommons/commons claim, and everyone who doesn't claim uncommon/common either is a rare, or incredibly stupid. Or scum.
And so it was that the forces of the four paladins converged. my sig. made by me.
Or can we assume that the Paladins are not necessarily set up that way?
...or it could be intrepreted as someone coming forward to let us now that we aren't all rares.
Yeah. Lurker voting is one thing, lurker lynching is another. That should only occur under extreme cases.
Barned Vote greebo
One: Unless a host specifically allows edits (I have, in the past) there is to be none. Greebo should feel lucky if he survives his edit.
Two: Double posting is not allowed as per forum rules. There are enough people reading the thread to make your wait to post a second thing less than fifteen minutes.
Three: A mafia game is not the the place to spam. Announcements of checking in, telling that you will be gone for several hours, and the like, are not to be tolerated any further. I will complain about people using mafia games to ++ to the mods. As of now I have several spam posts seen here, and I will list them:
AlphaInsideous-Post 4, 15
Stop now.
Celtic word for a computer spelling mistake.

Because asking for a uncommons/commons claim, and everyone who doesn't claim uncommon/common either is a rare, or incredibly stupid. Or scum.
OMFG linkage
