Has anyone heard if there's going to be any extended art promos for this?
The extended art promos are for State Champs, this is a different program. That said there seems to be a serious gap in the extended art promos. It looked like they were going to do 2 for each set but they now have missed Future Sight (too bad they didn't print extended art, foil $100 bills, I mean Tarmogoyfs) and Tenth but I assume the next round will be from Lorwyn. They will probably do some Kithkin as the non-foil and something obscene like Thoughtsieze for the foil.
No, CC doesn't give out any promos at all. Hell, last year they didn't give out any prize period. This year they said they will be giving out displays of boosters at least.
Where did you get the info about the changes to the way it works?
If the points are store specific then that's a lot less driving for me, which is a good thing. Because I thought they were city specific.
I just want to make sure I know what all is going on for sure before I get all me friends signed on and something isn't right.
Is there CC in Jersey or an i forced to travel to New York? (which is major bs on Wizards part)

RnD during Time Spiral:
Rosewater: "Color Pie, WTF is that, If I want Black to be able to wrath, counter and have green creatures then I will damnit!"
Random RnD guy: "RED AKORMA! FTW!"
Gleemax: "Rosewater has broken out of my mind control!"
RnD after 2008:
MaRo: Hmm how do we fix the problems of pricing with cards like Tarmogoyf and Thoughtsieze
Random RnD Guy: OO lets make a new RED RARITY SYMBOL!
MARO: OMGWTFBBQ! Thats a great idea, we'll call it Mythic Rarity!

I love the changes to the program. City Champs was REALLY unfairly biased before with the weekly tournaments, because if you lived in an area where there were four tournaments a week, but 2 of the four stores were very close to eachother and the other two were quite spread out, then the guys playing at the 2 close stores dominated everyone else in points. This way, the tournaments are spread out a bit more, and you're not having to compare your points to everyone in your city, just with the other people in your store.
I'm very happy with this system, and I'm glad to see the DCI listened to what they players had to say about how poorly the system for the first season was set up.

That person still hasn't said where they got the info, so for all we know there is no new system.
I can confirm that the system this year is different from the last one. We already sanctioned our events for Nov-Dec for CC. I don't recall how the point system works exactly as I don't really follow that stuff in our emails, but there's going to be 2 events per month. One is mandatory standard, and the other is mandatory limited. This differs a great deal from the last CC where you could have a CC every week potentially, and do it in whatever format you pleased.
The points system is different as I recall, and I know that Wotc is giving out displays of boosters for the event rather than the nothing at all we got last year.
If I get a chance tomorrow at work i'll look at the email again if it hasn't been deleted and see how the point structure is going to look.
Here's the way the new system works, got the email out of the trash bin:
The CC qualifiers are 8k normal REL and the season runs from Nov 1st-Feb 29th. Each store holds 2 tournaments per month, 1 standard, 1 limited.
"Players may compete in as many stores as they wish, earning points in the rankings for each store. The top 8 players in the store ranking at the end of the season are invited to that store's CC store finals."
The store final is 16k REL, swiss rounds, WOTc will be providing boosters for the finals.
"If any of the top 8 do not show up to the store's finals, their invite passes down to the 9th ranked player, then 10th until 8 people are available. The top 2 players from the store finals receive invitations to the City Championships for their city. All city Champs take place on the same day in April... 24k competitive REL, and are standard format. Will cut to swiss rounds, and WOTC will provide prize."
It appears they're updating the page on Wizards right now, as the page is coming up
"This application is currently offline. To enable the application, remove the app_offline.htm file from the application root directory.". So I would guess the official info will be up by tomorrow.
This is a huge improvement over the 07 CC. I know in my area that some fairly lousy players made it just due to living near the tourneys and being able to play in so many of them (I know because I top 8'd). The lack of prize support was too bad, but since the top 8 was a freeroll anyway, it's not like I was missing out on anything. I just wanted to scoop one of my buddies into Nats.
Yay for an update! WOTC is finally improving the CC even more by providing not only prize support for the finals (boosters) but for the weekly events as well. We were sent an envelope full of alternate art promos to give out.
-Don't get too excited though, there's nothing new here. They've decided to cheap out on an easy solution and they're giving away the TS kits promos that have been made available throughout the year, including the newest set. For those who don't remember what these art, this list includes the following foil, alternate art cards:
if you've missed your chance to get 'em before now, this might just be it for you. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how it's to be given out, so be sure to ask your TO what they will choose to supply when.
Some people don't get to FNM very often (or get into T2 to get the foilies), so another way to get foil Mindstones is always welcome. Just think of it as MPR where they give away the older stuff mixed in with the new.
Looking to try out a new card site, but need an incentive? Want to buy 2 NM Hallowed Fountains for less than $13 shipped? Send me your email in a PM and I can get you a coupon for $5 off of your first order of $10 or more at cardtitan.com!
This is much nicer for my area, as well; rather than penalizing people for not playing at multiple stores (I live in the denver area), this gives a lot more balance to those who patronize a local store; you could qualify in multiple store championships, I suppose, but would have to show up regularly at the stores you wanted to compete at. It also balances out the big store/small store thing; before, going to a store that would have 5-6 rounds +top 8 would give many, many more points than a store that was 3 rounds and done. You could have gone to a small store religiously, gone undefeated in every single event they held, and still not have had enough points to make the city champs. The prize support is also appreciated.

Do we know how many of which of these cards is sent for CC Nov-Dec 2007 or is it just a random assortment of any of the above? I have people calling us and asking about which promo they get, and what prize support, and all we know is that recently the DCI sent email stating they are sending only a pack of foil promos, not a "CC tournament suport kit". That is all...
That's basically what they did. They sent a large padded envelope full of assorted foils that we can give out in whatever fashion we choose for the event, so long as we get it out for the full 8 events. There just seems to be a random assortment of TS kit foils tossed in. If you want to say "this week you'll get Yixilid Jailer, and this week you'll get Mogg Fanatic for finishing from this place to this place..." go for it. WOTC did not set down any guidelines that I know of in their emails, so do as thou wilt with it.
Edit: the foils they sent out are for Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb events Snoop Dog. Make sure you make them last the full season of eight events, otherwise go nuts with 'em. The foils apparently available for this were those I listed in the post you quoted, whether everyone gets the same mix or a different one, I can't say.
Some of the "cities" are a joke. I live in Arlington, TX so I play at one of the "Dallas" stores (Lancaster), but our "City" includes Wichita Falls, Tyler, Garland, Denton, Lubbock, and Waco as well. For those that aren't familiar with the North Texas area, Lubbock is 450 miles from Tyler and 350 miles from Waco.
Of course those distances are nothing compared to the "Austin/Houston" city champs locations. "Austin/Houston" (which themselves are 160+ miles apart) stores are located in Austin, Houston suburbs, San Antonio, Killeen, El Paso (745 miles from Houston, and 575 miles from Austin), and Lafayette, Louisanna. Yes that means that 2 stores in the same "city" are nearly 1,000 miles away from each other (actually, according to google, the stores are 959 miles apart, but still). How does that make any sense at all?

This page has not been updated. However, click on one of the Schedule links and you will see the schedule of events for November and December.
EDIT: Here's how City Champs works this time.

3rd-4th Place - 2 Points

Yep, Little Shop of Comics in Scotch Plains will be holding them again this year, hopefully it'll be less lame then last season.

I patched it together from the websites of a couple local stores.
