Hi all I am having such a blast at Worlds, I have met a lot of cool people and seen a lot of crazy stuff. In the process I have discovered and aquired 3 new rarities (which brings to light 300+ more new rarities).
They are..... ALTERNATE Frame 8th Edition Test prints. According to the source they printed 3 of each card (non-foil and 2 different foil versions) of the entire 8th Edition set. All I can say right now is that they are BEAUTIFUL and I wished that Wizards had chosen these ones instead of the current ones.
These look amazing and could be something that will show up in the future. Discuss amongst yourselves lol.

I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
I think they're dumb. Why the box for the P/T on the Giant Growths? Why the side box showing Blue/White on the pain land? Also, putting the mana symbols to that side seems blasphemous to me. I'm glad they didn't change that way, but this still is a cool find.
Those are so bad... They look like crap. I don't see how someone could even say they look good.
They look like a bad rip off of real magic the gathering cards. I don't like the mana symbol, I dont like the p/t box on the giant growth, I dont like the extra stupid box on the land, I dont like the huge left frame on the card...they did EVERYTHING wrong with these.
The cards are test prints. Test prints are used to try out the look of certain frames and designs and foiling techniques. To learn more or understand what Test Prints are, I would suggest reading this informative section here.
This isn't necessarily the best way of doing it, but getting the mana cost on the vertical left of the cards is an ergonomic improvement, letting you spot mana cost easily from a fanned-out hand. Hence them trying it again in FS.
I don't think we are going back to the old borders style though. Aside from their decreased contrast making text harder to read, Mirrodin really forced their hand to something more "generic" as the old-school fantasy card art really clashed with the setting (and probably Kamigawa's too), plus the ugly brown would get old fast over 10 bazillion artifacts. So yeah, this isn't showing us much of the future.
Aren't those the frames they have shown on the Magic Advisory Panel with 6th edition cards? Could someone find the image on his hard drive or somewhere on the internet for comparison?
Yes, those are the frames from that.

*Shudder* Can't we, just once, discuss a possible alternate Magic frame without imagining similarities to Yu-Gi-Oh? And yes, the similarities are imagined. See the attached Yu-Gi-Oh card. IMO the original frames looked more like Yu-Gi-Oh than any suggested or implemented alternative (or rather, Yu-Gi-Oh looks like Magic).
Regarding the OP, that story doesn't make sense. If these were test prints for 8th Edition and "they printed 3 of each card ... of the entire 8th Edition set" why are Adarkar Wastes and Llanowar Elves there? Were 3 copies of each 8th edition card really printed, or was it an earlier "draft" of 8th? And the unglued symbol is just confusing. Can we get more background here?
It seems wierd to me that for an alternate 8th eddition, that they printed llanowar elves and Adarkar Wastes, two cards not in 8th.
Why weird? It isn't... How many time does it take to develop a new card frame?? Probably a lot of months!! They obviously had to decide whcih card frame to use before all the cards of the set was chosen. And prior to choose the card frame, they had to make some tests...Not all cards was selected at that time, which can explain easily that those 2 cards was print like that.
I personnaly likes them. The only thing I dislike is the P/T on Giant Growth, they should have remove it...
Hypothesis: The non-foil versions of these alternate cards were printed in the normal MtG card font. The foil versions received a different font and the old-style foiling.
That aside, I can't make hide nor hair of why they chose to use the UNG sign as the mark, nor why it is in the bottom left.
Gawd those are awful. Truly a blessing that they didn't use those frames. However, it's really cool that those exist. I wonder how much they could fetch?
No idea if they're real or not, but they sure look lame. And yeah, they're shiny, but that's exactly how all foils look if you shine a bright light on them at the proper angle while taking a photo. I used to snap pics of my foils for eBay like that. (They sell faster if they're really bright looking.... people are attracted to shimmering objects!) In any case it's still kinda cool to see other frame designs, even if they're definitely not being used for a reason.

There's no room on the right anymore? They may not have bothered to create the 6th/8th ed symbol yet at the time of printing either.
