I was trying to look for indicators of Alara's setting in the card art, but this isn't too clear, some of the art is a bit "generic fantasy". Except for the more green-aligned cards, Ajani and Godsire - these have a "jungley", more exotic feel than green's had lately. Interesting
The art really looks like classic Magic art circa Urza block to me. I am LOVING it!! I really hope they bring back that classic MtG feel with these sets... I can never quite put my finger on it, but I haven't seen it in years...
The Alara art together with the types of cards for the most part has a very medieval and traditional fantasy type of feel(angels, demons, dragons, knights). Very different from what wizards have been doing in recent sets.
The art for Windright Mage has to be one of my favorite art pieces in a long time, I really hope it matches up to a good card.
As for the Ajani Vengeant, possibly the Alara world is the world Ajani Goldmane originated from before becoming a planeswalker.
great to see the "return" of the classic style of art. As much as I grew into the comical LOR style, I have to remind myself how much I hated it when it was first spoiled. Great to see Angels back, but unfortunately it means this set may indeed break my bank after all. :/
Arkham, the 1920's. Investigators battle horrors from beyond time and space, risking life and sanity while conspiracies of cultists and malign servitors seek gateways for their outer gods to return...
Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
Best art since, oh, Shadowmoor. At least I get the same 'oh my God I can't wait' feeling because of it, and that's good.
Pretty surprised that I missed it. Here's the original link: http://www.mymagic.ru/file_storage/alara/
It doesn't mention anything new, maybe except that filligree exists in every shard.
EDIT: Oh, and there's more art coming. Stay tuned.
If these are all real (because Alara is still quite far away), thanks a lot. These are some nice arts (exception to the Archdemon; it's meh), and I'm digging them
And Akrasan? Will that be the name of a city, nation or what?
Oh, one more thing..... Maybe it's because most of these art are all inhuman, but the fact that the Windwright Mage is the only one with Filligree makes me wonder how prevalent that thing will actually be in Alara's setting.....
Also, more than one angel, more than one dragon. Fatties overload?
Oh, forgot one more thing: ARTIST GUESS
Ajani: Not sure about that signature; Is it Warren Mahy's?
Squire: Todd Lockwood (and wow... that art looks prettier in big size in the site itself)
Archdemon: Pete Venters? Or Dave Allsop (because the drawing style reminds me of Wort, the Raidmother)?
Battlegrace Angel: Stewart? A new artist or a long-absent one?
Hellion: .... This looks like a new artist, and a relatively uncommon drawing style too. And whose sig is that?
Windwright Mage: I somehow have the feeling that the one who drew this also drew the Hellion, but the lack of sig immediately eats my assumption. This art, strangely, is one art that I probably will appreciate better in card-size than full-size; the Filligree makes her looks somewhat weird (but then again, they ARE supposed to make a human look weird, aren't they?)
Empyrial Angel: Kudos to your, Greg Staples, that is one beautiful angel
Godsire: The coloring style makes me think of Scott M Fischer, but considering his art presentation this past few years, it's unlikely....
Dragon: The same guy who drew the Hellion, and surprisingly, the drawing style here is reminiscent to Aleksi Briclot to me......
We've only got one image and a tag line to go on. For all we know the portrait could just have been 'taken' on a gloomy day and the world could be populated by Pegasus's, squid-folk, and bear people who sing songs about friendship and ride rainbow rafts of chocolate.
EDIT: Random Speculation time! Between Archangel, Imperial Mask and Empyrial Armor, what if Empyrial Archangel comes into play with a you-guess-which aura token on it? It seems that enchantments are white's theme in Alara, after all, so it'd be pretty good if a creature comes into play with a bonus aura on it.
The Ajani Vengeant doesn't sound like an alternate or evolved Ajani Goldmane but more like a follower of Ajani. It could've been titled something like Ajani Berserker or whatever if you get my meaning. Maybe this is his homeworld where he comes to lead his people. It sounds a bit too soon to be doing alternate or evolved versions of our existing planeswalkers since they haven't appeared much yet, but I may be wrong.
Without knowing what those artworks are for or from, I must say they're pretty sweet. The proposed card names are quite classic and yet updated, imo. Very nice!

Empyrial Archangel= win. It would be sick if it was: Empyrial Archangel3WWW
Creature - Angel (R)
Flying, vigilance
~ gets +1/+1 for each card in your hand.
3/3
Of course, Archangels tend to be bigger, and more expensive... <_<
Either way, it looks epic, and is the best art so far imho.
Godsire reminds me of one of my first decks, starter 1999 era wurms! I like the art for Godsire the most for that reason, but the alternate Ajani is also pretty awesome. I like the idea of pre planeswalker ajani, it'll be interesting to see how that plays out with the speculation that the lorwyn planeswalkers will be in this set.
Also: as if angels wasn't exciting enough, we get angels with awesome art! This is looking like a good set to me
Edit: now it looks like godsire isnt a wurm, it looks like it has a leg or something....
Media is not making me steal. But in a way is like the story of the very hot girl with the short skirt teasing the old sick guy with a history of rape.
Akrasan Squire
Archdemon
Battlegrace Angel
Caldera Hellion
Windwright Mage
Empyrial Archangel
Godsire
Predator Dragon
And last, but most interesting:
Ajani Vengeant
I can't wait for this set!!!
Angels are back
And green gets a huge beast.
IMHO, each color gets its own theme as we expected in SOA, from very different background.

Machius proudly supports R_E's right to Rumour!
Also, I think it's going to be Ajani planeswalker card, with Ajani subtype...but different. Maybe different abilities or something.

Looks Wayne Reynolds to me. It reminds me of Kinsbaile Cavalier and Leaf-Crowned Elder.

Loved the Windwright Mage.
Firefright Mage is a card from Planar Chaos that also was on a similar Arcana that they probably re-used as a base for today arcana:

This art is beautiful. The card names are pretty awesome too - Archdemon, godsire... This is shaping up to be a good rumor season.
Nice find btw and much earlier than expected.
Agreed, here.
